Cookies, and how to refuse them.
Which cookies and similar technologies the Breakwater website uses, why, and how you can accept, refuse or change your choice at any time.
Example text for the Breakwater template, written for a fictional company (Breakwater, Nantes, France). This is an example to be reviewed by a lawyer: adapt it to your company, your tools and your country before you publish.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small file that a website stores on your device. Similar technologies, such as local storage, work in the same way. Some are needed for the website to work; others help us understand how it is used.
2. How we use them
We keep cookies to a minimum. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not let third parties track you across other websites through this one.
3. Strictly necessary
These keep the website secure, remember your cookie choice and make forms work. They do not need your consent and cannot be switched off from the banner. You can still block them in your browser, but parts of the website may stop working.
4. Analytics
With your consent, we measure visits to see which pages are read and where the website can be clearer. The statistics are aggregated, and we do not use them to identify you.
If you refuse, no analytics cookie is set, and the website works the same way.
5. Embedded content
Some pages may show content from other services, such as a map or a video. Those services may set their own cookies once you play or open the content. We load them only after you have accepted the matching category, or after you click to display them.
6. How long they last
Your cookie choice is remembered for six months, after which we ask again. Analytics cookies last no longer than thirteen months, in line with the guidance of the CNIL, the French data protection authority.
7. Changing your choice
You can change your choice at any time by deleting the cookies for this website in your browser settings: the banner will then ask you again. Refusing is as easy as accepting.
8. Changes and contact
We update this policy when we add or remove a tool. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version. For any question, write to privacy@breakwater.example.
